We – scientists, teaching staff and students of the Voronezh N.N.Burdenko State Medical University – are happy to welcome you at the XXIII congress of I.P. Pavlov physiology society in one of the most outstanding medical universities of Russia!

Medical education in Voronezh goes back to 1918, though the history of our university started in 1801 when Derpt ( now Tartu) university was founded. Famous scientists, - physiologists, physicians, - genuine humanists Burdenko N.N., Leporsky N.I., Rusanov A.G., Nikiforovsky P.M., Iosifov G.M., Evdokimov A.I., Biryukov D.A. were fathers of higher medical education in Voronezh. We remember the names of these enthusiasts of science and regard it as our duty to educate medical students on the examples of our mentors and tutors, whose philosophy was devotion to the cause of people. We pay greatest respect to our outstanding graduates, Laureates of State Prize of Russia, honourable academicians of VSMU Dedov I.I., Petrov R.V., Pokrovsky A.V., Kozachenko V.P. and maintain close professional and friendly contacts with them. We are particularly proud of our medical dynasties of the Zemskovs, Radushkevichs, Bulynins, Bobrovs, who are keeping and handing down from generation to generation better traditions of medical education in our university and practical application of knowledge obtained during  the years of study.

Today there are more than 7500 students and 1000 teaching staff in the Voronezh State Medical University. Six faculties and three institutes represent well-known and consistently developing progressive scholarly traditions. The university offers new specialties and constantly interacts with practical health care. Currently the university is coming to meet milestones – 100th anniversary of the Russian Physiology Society and 100th anniversary of the Voronezh N.N.Burdenko State Medical University. I am sure that progress and modernization of material and technical resources of the university, scientific perspectives and application of their achievements in practice, inventions of new research areas and academic disciplines, implementation of computer-based learning technologies and international partnership promotion are considered to be those imperatives, which have been designated as priority development fields of the Voronezh N.N.Burdenko State Medical University.

WELCOMING ADDRESS OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE I.P. PAVLOV PHYSIOLOGY SOCIETY –

PROFESSOR MIKHAIL A. OSTROVSKY,

MEMBER OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES

To participants of the XXIII Congress of I.P. Pavlov Physiology Society

Dear friends and colleagues!

Dear participants of the Congress!

President of the I.P.Pavlov Physiology Society Professor Mikhail A. Ostrovsky, Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences

The XXIII Congress of I.P. Pavlov Physiology Society devoted to the 100th anniversary of the Society foundation is approaching.

The Congress takes place in the ancient Russian city Voronezh – the City of Military Glory. This milestone XXIII Congress is being held by the Voronezh N.N.Burdenko State Medical University, Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2018.

Our Physiology Society is one of the oldest and most honourable scientific societies in Russia. It was founded on the initiative of I.P.Pavlov, N.Y. Vvedensky and other outstanding physiologists and physicians in Petrograd, in April 1917.

The Congress agenda includes plenary meetings on current problems of physiology, numerous symposiums, panel discussions and round table talks. Leading Russian and foreign scientists actively working in various research fields of physiology will read plenary lectures and reports at symposiums. Since physiology is considered to be “soul of medicine”, then, naturally, certain plenary meetings and symposiums will be devoted to current cross-disciplinary problems in physiology and medicine. Great attention will be paid to posters and round table talks. I hope that Congress Program will be interesting to participants.

I also believe that plenary meetings, symposiums, discussions at sessions and after them, eternity of talks and discussions during the Congress will give you great pleasure; meeting old colleagues and making new friends will bring you a lot of joy because this is luxury of human personal and professional communication.

I sincerely wish successful work, health and happiness to the organizers and participants of the XXIII Congress of I.P. Pavlov Physiology Society in Voronezh devoted to the 100th anniversary of the Society foundation!

Sincerely yours,

President of the I.P.Pavlov Physiology Society –

Professor Mikhail A. Ostrovsky,

Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences
